AEG: Are They Gonna Refund??

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Michael Jackson’s death yesterday has brought a looming question to thousands of fans who’d already bought tickets to his O2 This Is It shows:

Are we gonna get a refund?

So far, the answer is yes“in due course”, according to AEG Live, who was sponsoring the gigs.

As with the rest of the world, the suits-behind-the-show are still in shock after learning of the self-proclaimed “King of Pop’s” demise and, with everything else to be handled about the eternal cancellation, they’re just not ready to handle the heavy refund load.

At present, there’s $82 million to be refunded off 750,000 ticket sales. It’s one of the biggest refund efforts in the history of the concert industry, and one concert executive said it’s also the “biggest mess in the history of our business.”

Ticketmaster’s customer service line played a recorded message advising customers to “await communication” from the company regarding refunds.

It continued: “We understand this is an upsetting time for all Michael Jackson fans and we want to thank you for your patience in this matter.”

And secondary ticket service Seatwave also told fans that they’d get a full refund.

“We are all saddened by the news of Michael Jackson’s death,” said CEO and founder Joe Cohen in a statement.
“All customers who purchased tickets for his O2 shows from Seatwave are covered by our TicketCover guarantee and will get a full refund.
Full information on how to do this is on our Web site at www.seatwave.com. We advise customers to use the Web site rather than our phone lines to obtain this information.”

Look … the world needs to take time to mourn Michael’s passing, as we’d need if we’d lost a loved one.  After all, he was a member of the rock family!

Paperwork (and ticket refunds) can come when that’s done.  Agreed?? …

Springsteen Charity

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

He’ll be one of the last acts to ever play Giants Stadium.

And now you’ve got a chance to bid on tickets to Bruce Springsteen’s concert — and the proceeds will go to help charity!

Springsteen and the E Street Band are gonna hit the stage at the stadium on October 3, and tickets sold out in just minutes! But “The Boss” is giving you the chance to get some special tickets (in some of the best seating areas!).

Now, proceeds from the auction will go to World Hunger Year (WHY), which is an organization formed in 1975 by radio talk-show host Bill Ayres and singer/songwriter Harry Chapin (he did Cat’s In The Cradle, Taxi and W*O*L*D).
Chapin saw hunger and poverty as an insult to America, and many of his concerts were benefit shows for the charities he was known to support (82 in all!). Also, the sales of all his concert merchandise were donated directly to WHY.
At the time of his death in 1981, it was found that Chapin had donated almost all of his personal fortune to charity!

Today, WHY is an international non-profit organization that connects grass roots charities with funding expertise and publicity.

Auction winners will also receive a WHY-Hard Rock Born In The USA 25th Anniversary Limited Edition Tee-shirt, Lapel Pin and Hat.

Now, the auction is gonna run until June 29, so time’s runnin’ out, yardbirds! If you wanna bid on the tix, they can be accessed here.

McCartney’s THIRD Citi Show

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

paulstrawfadeSir Paul McCartney — who’s due to play at the opening of Citi Field (the new home of the NY Mets) has added a third concert set for Tuesday, 21 July. The first two shows (on 17 & 18 July) sold out in just under five minutes!

Tickets for the additional show are on sale now, exclusively online at www.507TIXX.com or by phone at 718-507-TIXX. I’m told that all performances will be held rain or shine!

Of course, the gigs will feature classics from Macca’s extensive catalog, including Beatles, Wings and his solo career hits. He’ll also include selections from his most recent album, Electric Arguments, released under his alias of The Fireman.

These shows are gonna mark the latest in a series of shows that link the former Beatle with NYC and the home of the Mets. Beginning with The Beatles’ legendary appearance at the opening of Shea Stadium in 1965 to his special appearance at Billy Joel’s “Last Play at Shea” show that closed the stadium last year, Sir Paul’s summer shows at Citi Field will once again mark a momentous occasion in the history of New York — and for rock n’ roll itself.

Okay … that’s it for now, but stay tuned … there’s more to come in less than 24!
See ya on the flip side ….

ANOTHER Legend Returns!

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Following the theme of so many classic (and heretofore disbanded) rockers, the famed UK band Kajagoogoo is reuniting!

The original line up of the band (who had a UK hit with Too Shy in 1983) have organized 10 gigs for later this year.

Led by frontman Limahl (Christopher Hamill) they ended up at-odds with each other and split apart just eight months after Too Shy reached the top of the charts in the UK (it also was a hit in 22 other countries).

Limahl, 50, said: “It took us 25 years to grow up, basically. All this silly stuff - ‘if you want to talk to me, talk to my lawyer…’

“But now we’re back together, it’s a relief. When you get to our age, you know you’re half way through your life or more; you know this is not a rehearsal, it’s the real thing.”

The group’s publicist said Kajagoogoo is “armed with new songs”.

Fellow bandmate Nick Beggs, 47, is also pumped up for the reunion, saying: “If it ain’t fun, it ain’t worth doing.”

The tour starts in Liverpool on September 17 and finishes in Southampton two weeks later. Other locations being played will include Glasgow, Belfast, Norwich and Sheffield.

Clapton, Winwood Unite

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

If you remember, last year rock superstars Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood got together for a three-night gigs at Madison Square Garden.

Now, the duo’s bringing their combined sounds to the rest of America on a 14-date arena tour. They’ve even worked up some new material for this outing.

“I’d like to try my song ‘Help Me Angel,’ “ says Winwood. “And last year, I was having trouble singing harmony while playing guitar on Eric’s ‘Pretending.’ I’d like to have another go at that.”

WHERE TO CATCH THE SHOW:

6/10 – East Rutherford, NJ @ Izod Center
6/12 – Philadelphia, PA @Wachovia Center
6/13 – Washington, DC @ Verizon Center
6/15 – Columbus, OH @ Schottenstein Center
6/17 – Chicago, IL @ United Center
6/18 – St. Paul, MN @ Xcel Energy Center
6/20 – Omaha, NE @ Qwest Center
6/21 – Denver, CO @ Pepsi Center
6/23 – Dallas, TX @ American Airlines Center
6/24 – Houston, TX @ Toyota Center
6/26 – Glendale, AZ @ Jobing.com Arena
6/27 – Las Vegas, NV @MGM Grand Arena
6/29 – Oakland, CA @ Oracle Arena
6/30 – Los Angeles, CA @ Hollywood Bowl

And I see where some webwatchers are reporting that Jane’s Addiction front man Perry Farrell was seen using a teleprompter during a recent show. Whether that’s true or just another turn of the rumor millstone is yet to be determined.
But it’s really not unusual. For decades, performers from all genres have had teleprompters on the stage floor, near the edge, to help them (and before that, real people with cue cards)! As long as it doesn’t stop the music, right??

Vedder To Tour Solo

Friday, April 10th, 2009

eddie-vedderEddie Vedder — known best as frontman for Pearl Jam – has revealed details of a tour this summer.

Beginning in Albany, NY on June 8, the 14-date tour is scheduled to play fourteen dates in the South and East (stateside) and make a stop in Hawaii to close the tour on July 2nd.

Liam Finn, who also ran support on Vader’s first solo tour last year, is confirmed to play the main support for all 14 dates.

Oh, yeah … he’s also been booked for a guest appearance on the upcoming new LP from Rolling Stones guitarist, Ron Wood – one that’s entitled More Good News.

COBAIN REMEMBERED

It was fifteen years ago Wednesday that garage-rock icon Kurt Cobain was found dead — according to the coroner’s report, a suicide brought on by pills and heroin.

But a hero is a hero, no matter what the genre — and thousands paid their respects near Kurt’s Lake Washington home.

kurt-cobain-4Unfortunately, the day also brought anger from Kurt’s widow, actress/singer Courtney Love. Although Cobain’s estate was worth millions, she said,“managers, assistants, CPAs, lawyers, people like that who were supposed to be entrusted with carrying for their well-being and finances basically looted the estate.”

And, as with any small town, Cobain and his band, Nirvana, wasn’t seen in a favorable light … until recently, when city fathers “adopted” the title of one of his hits to welcome visitors. When you come into his hometown of Aberdeen, Washington, you’ll see a sign that says “Come As You Are.”
And now there are plans to build a youth center in his honor where kids can come to play music and follow their artistic interests.  Today (Friday), a concert’s to be held in Seattle to honor Kurt and raise money for the center.

Okay … that’s all for now.  See ya on the flip side.

Beyoncé has invited all of her fans to create their own versions of her new “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” video clip for the official “Single Ladies” dance video contest.

Contestants should adhere precisely to the iconic “Single Ladies” dance routine performed by Beyoncé and her two dancers in the original clip - no new choreography should be added.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at 9.00 AM. If you’re in the Dublin area (or, considerin’ the lineup, anywhere in the Isles!), they’re available in person from Ticketmaster outlets. Tel: (ROI) 0818 719 300; Northern Ireland tel. 0870 243 4455.

U2 Writing Spider-Man Musical

Bono and the Edge are composing music and lyrics for Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, opening on Broadway on February 18 of next year.
This is a smart fall-back for U2 since the whole “writing rock songs” thing isn’t working out. According to Hollywood Reporter, actress Evan Rachel Wood will play Mary Jane.

Now, that’s all the time we have for this session, but stay tuned — there’ll definitely be more in 24!
‘Til then, see ya on the flip side …

“House” That For Charity?

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

House star Hugh Laurie was honored with a special humanitarian award by the Venice Family Clinic this past Monday night.

Along with House creator David Shore, Laurie was honored for his charity work. Also honored at the event was the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Founded in 1983, Silver Circle is Venice Family Clinic’s premier giving group, raising more than one million dollars annually to provide free, quality health care to people in need. The Venice Family Clinic, the nation’s largest free clinic, provides free, quality health care to people in need. Last year, with the support of Silver Circle donors and more than 1,500 volunteers—including nearly 500 physicians—the Clinic served over 23,500 children and adults in approximately 100,000 primary care, specialty care, mental health and dental visits. Silver Circle is Venice Family Clinic’s premier annual support group, raising approximately $1,000,000 per year.

Laurie was busy with his charity pursuits over the weekend: on Sunday he performed with the Band From TV at the West Coast Premiere of NASCAR, the Auto Club 500. The band – made up of television stars such as Greg Grunberg, Bob Guiney, Bonnie Somerville, James Denton, Jesse Spencer and Teri Hatcher – recently scored the number 1 slot on Amazon with their CD/DVD package, Hoggin’ All the Covers.

Proceeds from every show the band plays goes to charities such as Save the Children, The Art of Elysium, the Child Abuse Prevention Program and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence – through the Band From TV Global Charity Trust.

The Venice Family Clinic event was held at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills.

Faith No More have announced their intention to play their first live performances since splitting up in 1998.

The band will play a series of European festival dates sometime this summer, according to a statement from frontman Mike Patton’s publicist.
But the line-up for the revived FNM, as well as specific  festival dates, haven’t been announced.
That means, for one thing, we don’t know yet it the band’s legendary guitarist ‘Big Sick Ugly’ Jim Martin will be involved.

Okay … that’s it for this edition; but stay tuned, because there’ll be more in about 24!  Til then …

I’ll see ya on the flip side.

“Yes” … and No …

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

There is some irony in the sudden cancellation of 11 Yes concert dates.
The band tersely attributes the cancellations to “unforeseen medical reasons” in what is called a “tour update” on the Yes website, leaving us to wonder whether it is Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Alan White, Oliver Wakeman or Benoit David who is too sick or hurt to perform the shows that have bitten the dust.
Wakeman’s blog makes reference to a “medical emergency” that forced postponement of a February 9 performance in Houston, but without little details like what the emergency was and who its victim was.
The irony? It was lead singer Jon Anderson’s health that forced cancellation of the band’s 40th anniversary tour last summer, and brought about the replacement of Anderson with David when the current tour began in November.
The tour is scheduled to resume February 25 in Phoenix.

And Billboard is reporting that Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne are putting their annual Ozzfest festival on hold for 2009 while Ozzy completes work on a new album… and makes his famous, embarrassing appearances on the Osbourne family’s new ‘variety’ TV show.

The as-yet-untitled followup to Ozzy’s 2007 release Black Rain is due out sometime this autumn and will be co-produced by Osbourne with Kevin Churko.
Ozzfest was a one-off event in Frisco, Texas, last year, with appearances by Ozzy, Metallica, Serj Tankian, Korn’s Jonathan Davis and Sevendust.

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is continuing to work on his autobiography, to be ghost-written by The Boston Globe’s David Dalton.
Dalton’s previous work includes books on Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison. The as-yet untitled autobiography will be published by Ecco, an imprint of HarperCollins, who allegedly paid close to $2,000,000 for the privilege of printing it!

Okay … runnin’ short on time here due to some contact and scouting work for The Fore, but that’ll be wrapped up shortly. So stay tuned … there’s gonna be more in less than 24!

Nine Inch Nails New Album, “The Slip” Is Out And 2008 Summer Tour Dates

Monday, May 5th, 2008

splash.jpg

Upon arriving on Nine Inch Nails’ website on the highly anticipated day after the message on their web blog titled, “2 Weeks”,

we saw that the assumptions were very much correct, we stumbled across the message saying:

“05 may 2008: halo 27

Click HERE to get the new full-length nine inch nails record: the slip

(thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years - this one’s on me)”

That’s right ladies and gentlemen the expected (or unexpected) album from Nine Inch Nails is out. The best thing about it is, as you can read,

“this one’s on me” meaning its absolutely FREE! It’s not another Ghosts I-IV this album actually contains vocals like all other Nine Inch Nails albums.

Anyways I don’t want to keep you here all day but the link to download this album is here:

http://theslip.nin.com

Upon arriving at the site you will need to give your email address so that the download link will be sent to you and onc eyou click on the link you will have a

choice to forward it to some of your friends via email. Once you have click on the download, you will be given several choices as to what format you want to download

and also mentioning the fact that  the physical format are coming soon and i doubt those will be free. The formats available at the moment are:

High-Quality MP3s

FLAC Lossless

M4A Apple Lossless

High Definition WAVE 24/96

All files are 100% DRM

Also, as usual somewhere in the link you will have a link to download the multitracks to the album and NIN also encourages you to remix it and pretty much pass it along.

 Track Listings:

  1. 999,999
  2. 1,000,000
  3. letting you
  4. discipline
  5. echoplex
  6. head down
  7. lights in the sky
  8. corona radiata
  9. the four of us are dying
  10. demon seed

Aside from the new album I thought we’d all have to wait for awhile before Nine Inch Nails decided to announce their tour dates till May 25th but it appears they already

started throwing out some of the dates in our faces unexpectedly. Now, I too am disappointed that I don’t see a Florida date on here, but I mean it’s okay because they normally won’t give

you all the dates for this next album’s tour right away. My only advice to those that don’t have their hometown under this list is just sit there and wait a little while longer

and hopefully we’ll see them come around to our hometowns. Cross your fingers!

Nine Inch Nails’ New Single, “Discipline” And New Album On May 5th??

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

ll_e2a2419f556f0296c385c7ce01531e2b.jpg

So it appears that Nine Inch Nails is doing it again!

After releasing, “Ghosts I-IV” on March 2, 2008 you figure most fans were thinking, “Okay, great well, now we’ll have to wait for some time for another release from Nine Inch Nails.”  Well guess again! Nine Inch Nails just so happens to release their new single entitled, “Discipline” (mixed by Alan Moulder), which includes vocals and everything. American radio stations began playing the new single and provided the online links  as to where you can download this song for free (discipline.nin.com

l_b5470a061b495a1f8269dd6ae01199ad.jpg

Now the whole situation that has people completely psyched and in massive anticipation is the fact that about two weeks prior to “Ghosts I-IV”, Trent Reznor posted on his site blog “2 Weeks”. So he does it again now! April 21, 2008 Trent Reznor posts “2 Weeks”. So us doing the math leads to the very speculation that the follow-up to “Year Zero” will be released on May 5th, 2008!! Even contained with the MP3 down for Discipline is the message that says “Go to www.nin.com May 5″. So no one knows exactly what that’s all about, but we all know that Nine Inch Nails has gone completely independent and of course thats a whole other story.

In the future, I  will be discussing a few things about how the music business has changed over time and why artists like Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead have been doing these complete DIY releases. As for now let’s all put our hands together for more Nine Inch Nails material!

Stone Temple Pilots Perform TONIGHT!

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

stone-temple-pilots-rolling-stone-no-753-february-1997-photographic-print-c13020530.jpeg

Stone Temple Pilots have just recently reunited for a 4-month summer tour and before all that takes place on May 17th, they will start off their first performance at the ABC-TV’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” tonight  (which is actually tomorrow early morning Friday at Midnight!).  It should be exciting to see the long await reunion take place. I don’t know about all of you but a Stone Temple Pilots reunion is something I always predicted would happen. Now before you go off to see them live in person you should take the time to see them on screen. The performance will bring great fuzzy feelings to every hardcore 90s music enthusiast . To bring back that refreshing sound of Stone Temple Pilots should be something of wonders to all our ears!

In the side note of all this related news, I would also like to inform that they will be working on a new album and Scott Weiland actually said that there might be a DVD included with this upcoming album. Another part of this to mention is Scott Weiland’s second solo album will be coming out along with his autobiography later towards the end of the year.

For those of you that haven’t kept taps on the recent news from Stone Temple Pilots, they have also announced their tour dates starting May 17th (or should we say Tonight at “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”)
